Accelerando al niente

Technique: 5.1 home audio system, audio cable, 5 sound tracks.

2014 - Zona Vacía. Le Laboratoire gallery. Mexico City.

In musical language, accelerando means to speed up the rhythm, the time, and al niente (to nothing) means that a sound should get down in volume gradually until it disappears.

In this case, this is not about a musical sound, but about a drumstick repeated sequentially, that imitates the trajectory of the arm and hand of a percussion player, from the highest point to the lowest just before it strikes the skin of a drum.
In this case, the drum stick seams to move through the space of the gallery in order to get to the floor; the force of gravity makes it accelerate, but when it reaches the lowest point, just before hitting the ground, it stops. That is, the drumstick does not play anything, it remains suspended in emptiness.
